LETTER OF SUPPORT
2023
30th ZEVA SYMPOSIUM OF THE CENTRAL AND EASTERN EUROPEAN CHAMBERS OF PHYSICIANS

DUSSELDORF, GERMANY, 7-9 SEPTEMBER 2023

HOSTED BY THE NORTH RHEIN  STATE CHAMBERS OF PHYSICIANS OF

STATEMENT OF SUPPORT FOR THE POLISH CHAMBERS OF PHYSICIANS AND DENTIST'S EFFORTS TO IMPLEMENT A NO-FAULT SYSTEM IN POLAND

On the occasion of the Symposium of the Central and Eastern European Chambers of Physicians (ZEVA) in Dusseldorf, we support the Polish Chamber of Physicians and Dentists's efforts to implement a no-fault system in Poland.

  • The population has legitimate expectations of having access to a wide scope of high-quality healthcare services in Europe.
  • Healthcare systems in Europe are facing increasing challenges due to shortages of doctors and other healthcare professionals, excessive workload, burnout of healthcare professionals and medical professions becoming less attractive as a career option.
  • There are significant legal risks, including possible inappropriate criminal and civil liabilities, borne by healthcare professionals while carrying out their duties.
  •  Healthcare systems should guarantee healthcare professionals with adequate and safe working conditions, as well as an appropriate level of security.

The no-fault system in healthcare is an effective tool that seeks to protect professionals and patients alike. Its implementation contributes to a greater number of reported critical incidences and medical errors which allows to draw conclusions and to avoid similar incidents in the future, thus improving patient safety. The no-fault system also enables faster and less complicated compensation for damages.

We express our support for our Polish colleagues who are advocating for the implementation of a no-fault compensation system in Poland.
