In the countries listed below, the national medical chambers are responsible, or involved in, the process of the regulation of content of specialty training, a key aspect of physician's self governance.
The Ministry of Health defines the content of specialty training in cooperation with the Austrian Medical Chamber.
Specialty medical training is exclusively the competence of the State Chambers of Physicians. They establish the regulations, define the content (in cooperation with scientific boards) and administer the specialty examinations. In order to ensure uniform specialty training the German Medical Association provides the Model Specialty Training Regulations developed by the specialty training bodies of the GMA with the State Chambers of Physicians, specialist organisations, etc., and adopted by the German Medical Assembly.
