The Doctor's Chamber of North Macedonia was established in its current form in 1992. Membership is compulsory for all 6,500 physicians in North Macedonia (2024).

 

 


TASKS &
RESPONSI­BILITIES

  • Represent and protect the interests of the members of the Chamber
  • Defend the honour and independence of the medical profession
  • Supervise the adherence to ethical and legal standards in medical practice · Maintain a register of doctors in the Republic of North Macedonia
  • Pass acts concerning licenses for the operation of doctors

        - responsible for relicensing of physicians

        - issuing and revoking licences for work

  • Legal, social and other protection of members
  • Work to improve the expertise and encourage constant professional development of members
  • Responsible for CME regulation and accreditation of CME events

 


QUALIFICATIONS
MEDICAL EDUCATION

BASIC MEDICAL EDUCATION

  • The minimum duration of study for acquiring a medical degree is 6 years / 12 semesters / 5705 hours
  • The Educational-Scientific Council of the Medical Faculty defines the content of basic medical training, which is then accepted by the University Rector’s Council


SPECIALITY TRAINING

  • The Educational-Scientific Council of the Medical Faculty also defines the content of specialty training, which is then accepted by the University Rector's Council 
  • Specialty training takes place partly at general hospitals, mostly at university hospitals and under the supervision of appointed educators and mentors
  • Certificates for specialty training are issued by the Medical Faculty
  • Specialty qualifications from abroad are recognised by the Doctor's Chamber of North Macedonia


CONTINUING MEDICAL EDUCATION / CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT (CME / CPD)

  • CME and CPD are compulsory in North Macedonia
  • The Doctor's Chamber is responsible for CME/CPD regulations
  • Recertification is scheduled every 7 years
