The Hungarian Medical Chamber was established in its current form in 1994.
Membership is voluntary for all physicians in Hungary.

 




TASKS &
RESPONSI­BILITIES

  • To represent the interests and prestige of medical doctors
  • To cooperate with the civil organisations working in the field of health
  • Realisation of the resolutions of the General Assembly
  • Publication of medical information for members and the public

 


QUALIFICATIONS
MEDICAL EDUCATION

BASIC MEDICAL EDUCATION

  • The minimum duration of study for acquiring a medical degree is 6 years
  • The Ministry of Education and the universities define the content of basic medical training


SPECIALITY TRAINING

  • The Ministry of Interior defines the content of specialty training
  • Specialty training takes place at general hospitals as well as university hospitals
  • Certificates for specialty training are issued by the National Directorate General for Hospitals
  • Specialty qualifications from abroad are recognised by the Directorate for Human Resources Development of the National Directorate General for Hopsitals (Országos Kórházi Főigazgatóság, Humánerőforrás-Fejlesztési Igazgatóság


CONTINUING MEDICAL EDUCATION / CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT (CME / CPD)

  • CME and CPD are compulsory
  • The National Directorate General for Hospitals is responsible for its regulation
  • Physicians who accumulate 250 credits within 5 years are eligible for recertification
